Most full house rewires in Cork take 3 to 7 days. The exact number depends mostly on the size of the property and how accessible the existing wiring is. A bungalow with an open attic is usually faster than a two-storey house with solid floors and plastered ceilings throughout, and we give a specific day count for your own property at the quote stage, not just a range.
What Affects the Timeline
Size and access are the two biggest factors. A smaller 2-bed with an open attic and easy floor access can be done in as little as 3 days. A larger house, or one with solid floors and fully plastered ceilings throughout, takes longer simply because more has to be opened up and made good again.
Whether you are staying in the property also plays a small part. Working around furniture, and phasing rooms so you always have power somewhere in the house, adds a bit of time compared to an empty property, but it is the more common setup and one we plan for as standard.
Typical Duration by House Size
As a rough guide, based on the jobs we actually complete across Cork: a 1 or 2-bed apartment or bungalow with an open attic usually takes 2 to 3 days. A typical 3-bed semi-detached house, the most common job we quote, runs 3 to 5 days. A 4-bed or larger detached house, or a property with solid floors and fully plastered ceilings throughout, usually takes 5 to 7 days, and sometimes a little longer if the house has been extended over the years with wiring added in stages.
These are typical ranges, not fixed numbers. Two houses of the same size can take different amounts of time depending on access, so the figure you get on your own quote is the one to plan around.
Day by Day
We work room by room rather than shutting the whole house down for the entire job. That means you keep power in parts of the house while we work in others, and we restore power each evening where possible. Early days are usually first fix, cable runs and back boxes, with sockets, switches and final connections following once the wiring is in.
On a typical 3 to 5 day job, the first one to two days are first fix: old cabling comes out, new cable runs go in, and back boxes get fitted. The middle days connect everything to the new consumer unit. The final day is testing every circuit and making good any walls or ceilings that were opened up.
When It Takes Longer
Older properties sometimes take longer if we find issues once walls are opened up, like damaged wiring that was not visible during the initial quote. We will always flag that before doing extra work, not after, so you know the reason for any change to the original timeline.
